Holiday Returns Are Swamping Retailers Again. How They're Coping.

As Americans pack up their lights and toss Christmas trees to the curb, retailers are bracing themselves for the all-too familiar hangover that comes with the deluge of returns following the holiday season.

Instead of reaching for ibuprofen, retailers are looking inward in a bid to alleviate some of the symptoms of the overhang. Roughly 60% of retailers are considering a change to their return policies this holiday season, according to a survey from return management company goTRG. Those changes range from charging shipping or restocking fees to offering longer return windows. Some companies are going as far as offering refunds—while telling customers to keep the unwanted items.
